Finding child care can be a challenge for many families. IdahoSTARS helps parents to locate child care that is affordable, available, and uses quality practices.
Programs that participate in Steps to Quality, Idaho's Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) are working toward providing the best care for Idaho's children.
Steps to Quality is Idaho's child care Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS), which measures the quality of care in center and home-based child care settings. Children benefit from high quality early care and education. Steps to Quality provides child care programs with a set of tools to cultivate a high quality setting.
The Steps to Quality program provides a roadmap for improvement in eight Quality Standards at six different steps. Steps to Quality acknowledges quality practices already in place. Child care programs move through the steps, becoming verified at each step, and receive a STAR rating upon verification at Step 3. Steps to Quality became available for participation in Steps 1, 2, 3, and 6 beginning in July 2014. Steps 4 and 5 will become available for participation beginning July 2015. Becoming STAR rated is a goal for many programs, however it is the continuous improvement over time that remains the overarching focus.
